ABOUT THE ARTIST

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

As an acupuncturist, I spend my days working at the threshold between what is seen and unseen; tracing the body's invisible channels, attending to energies that science is still learning to name. My paintings live on that same threshold.

I work in an abstract expressionistic style using acrylics. In my paintings I am building layered surfaces of paint that I scrape back into, letting color and depth emerge through the friction of that process. Recurring forms - orbs, floating heads, atmospheric voids function as portals: sites where corporeal and noncorporeal energy converge, where the physical world opens onto something subtler.

My visual language draws from spirituality, mysticism, and the chakra system; not as illustration, but as felt experience. I am interested in the body as a site of inner knowing, and in painting as a way of making that knowing visible. Each piece is less constructed than revealed- gestural marks accumulate, are obscured, and resurface, much the way healing itself works.

I hope these works invite a slower kind of looking- one that makes room for the energetic, the dreamlike, and the dimensions of human experience that resist easy naming.

BIOGRAPHY

Joseph Goldfedder is an artist and acupuncturist based in West Trenton, New Jersey, whose interdisciplinary practice integrates Chinese Medicine with his visual work.  A transformative period living in New Mexico immersed him in a new world of healing, ultimately leading him to study acupuncture. Through his clinical practice, Goldfedder deepened his understanding of how vital energy, also known as Qi, moves through the body, shapes consciousness, and supports healing.

Goldfedder holds a BFA from the University of the Arts, an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from Southwest Acupuncture College. He is also a Certified Medical Intuitive Practitioner (CMIP®) through The Practical Path. He currently practices acupuncture in Toms River and Barnegat, New Jersey, and continues to find ways to integrate art, healing, and spiritual inquiry in his work.
