ABOUT THE ARTIST
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I have long been intrigued by photographs that capture what appear to be floating Orbs moving through a scene, forms unseen by the naked eye yet revealed through the camera’s lens. How might the unseen become visible? How can art help expand our perception of the world?
My new series of acyrlic paintings builds upon my earlier Sgraffito drawings, where various colors of light seem to emanate from beneath the surface. Working dark over light, I scratch through layers using oil pastel, allowing illumination to emerge through erasure as much as mark-making. Painting extends this inquiry into the unseen. The process of layering colors to define space, surface, and depth. Central to my practice is gesture, movement, and atmosphere. I explore the interplay between the corporeal and the noncorporeal.
Especially significant is the sensation of Orbs drifting through an atmosheric space. I think of these forms as rising from deep waters of consciousness; manifestations of both light and spirit. These forms can also be imagined as portals carrying information from unseen dimensions. Heads that appear in my paintings reflect shifting states of consciousness. For me the act of painting becomes a journey of articulation, almost trance-like. Ultimately, my hope is for the work to offer viewers an entry point into their own inner reflection, discovery and meaning.
BIOGRAPHY
Joseph Goldfedder is a visual artist based in West Trenton, New Jersey, whose work explores the intersection of art, energy, spirituality and healing. Originally trained as a fine artist, his time living in New Mexico profoundly influenced his creative path, leading him to study acupuncture and deepen his understanding of how energy or “Qi” flows through the body. Rooted in energy medicine is the belief that all things are energy in motion; an understanding that guides his work and its engagement with vitality, balance, and spiritual transformation.
Goldfedder holds a BFA from the University of the Arts, an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine MSOM from Southwest Acupuncture College, and is a Certified Medical Intuitive Practitioner CMIP® through The Practical Path Training Program. He offers Art for Healing ; intuitive drawings through his practice, Goldfedder Wellness, where he continues to explore the synergy of creativity, science, and spirituality. Goldfedder practices acupuncture in New Jersey.
