Drawings are the sensual expressions of joy. The act of drawing is the bridge through the creative process which reveals a personal universe. I find myself doodling all the time. These doodles eventually evolve into more detailed works. With this current series I use the Sgraffito technique to carve into a medium allowing patterns and textures to emerge.  It’s a process of applying layers of oil pastels on paper and then scraping pigment away. I think of it like sculpting with wet clay on a slab.  I feel a playful childlike quality in allowing discovery and chance to guide the emergence of unexpected colors and forms. I find this process liberating.  Working with oil pastels a messy festival of color which allows for emotions or tones to come through easily.  I think of these drawings as spiritual communication at play.
