Sgraffito Drawings

 SGRAFFITO DRAWINGS

Drawing is a sensual expression of joy. The act of drawing becomes a bridge in the creative process, revealing a personal universe. I often begin with spontaneous doodling, allowing marks to move freely across the surface. Over time, these gestures evolve into more detailed and intentional works.

In this current series, I use the sgraffito technique: layering oil pastels on paper and then carving into the surface to reveal underlying color. By scraping pigment away, patterns and textures emerge through both control and chance. The process feels akin to sculpting wet clay on a slab: tactile, immediate, and responsive.

There is a playful, childlike quality in allowing discovery to guide the work. Unexpected colors and forms surface as layers are revealed, creating moments of surprise. I experience this process as liberating. Oil pastel becomes a messy festival of color, where emotion and tone move easily through the hand.

These drawings feel like a form of spiritual communication in motion: an intuitive dialogue between material, gesture, and the unseen.
